GISS-CA 2017 - September 14 — 15

The Governance Institute for Student Success – California (GISS- CA 2017) is sponsored in partnership with the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, the Community College League of California, and the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT).  The purpose of the GISS-CA 2017 is to create an educational opportunity for the leadership team of trustees, chancellors and presidents to engage in meaningful dialogue and planning around governing for student success in today’s dynamic higher education environment.

Institutional teams, ideally comprised of the President/Chancellor and the whole board but a minimum of 3 trustees from each college/district Board, will participate in meaningful discussions, facilitated group activities and action-oriented planning designed to promote the use of data to inform governance practices and policies that support student achievement, equity and completion and which help meet today’s workforce priorities.

The goals are to:

  • Increase and maintain the board and CEO’s awareness of their roles and readiness to advance a student success and equity agenda;
  • Engage trustee teams in the use of relevant data to achieve a better understanding of student needs and;
  • Promote greater understanding of institutional and statewide goals for student success and equity and meeting regional workforce needs; and
  • Facilitate the design of a framework (Action Plan) for how presidents and trustees can facilitate student success, equity, career readiness and completion on their campuses over the long term and review how well colleges have been meeting student success goals that they have previously set.

Concludes: Friday, September 15, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm (Day Two -includes continental breakfast and lunch)

Institutional teams consisting of trustees (three or more) and the CEO (chancellor/ superintendent/ president) are most effective. Other participants that the CEO would like to invite (e.g. vice chancellors, campus presidents, vice presidents, etc.) are also welcome (at an additional cost of $200/person). All attendees are expected to participate in the entire institute.

$3,000 per college for the district board and the CEO--chancellor or president-superintendent.   For additional college personnel (vice chancellors, campus presidents, vice presidents responsible for student success, institutional researchers, etc.), an additional $200/person fee will apply.

Meals will be provided during the meeting, compliments of Chabot-Las Positas CCD.

All travel and lodging arrangements for the institute will be the responsibility of the colleges. Hotel and shuttle information will be provided to all registrants at a later date.
